What is Reiki? Reiki (pronounced Ray- Key) is an ancient Japanese method of transferring energy to promote healing and relaxation. The word Reiki consists of ‘Rei’ -meaning spiritual wisdom and ‘Ki’- meaning life force energy. In China this energy is referred to as ‘Chi’ and in India it is called ‘Prana’. This energy comes from the universal source and is in everything: people, plants, water, air... How is Reiki Performed? Reiki energy is transferred from practitioner to client via the art of ‘laying-on of- hands’. Reiki is performed by someone who has been attuned to the Reiki energy. The client may sit in a comfortable chair or lie on a massage table, fully clothed, while the practioner places their hands slightly above or gently upon the client’s body at various key locations. There is no pressure applied and no manipulation of tissue as in massage. Reiki is completely safe and cannot do harm as it is a natural technique of energy healing. How does Reiki Energy Heal? Universal life force energy or 'chi' is what sustains life. It naturally flows through our body and exists in everything. Illness and disease occur when the natural flow in the body is disrupted. The energy can become blocked, depleted or unbalanced in various locations. This can be due to stress, exposure to environmental conditions, hereditary traits or accidental occurrences. Emotions such as anger, resentment, sorrow and frustration cause blockages which may, over a period of time, build up inside of you and eventually lead to physical illness. Releasing energy blockages, emotional fears and physical tension will restore the natural flow of energy throughout the body and then the body will be able to heal and be well again. Reiki energy penetrates all aspects of the subtle human energy system at the physical, mental, emotional and spiritual levels. Reiki energy induces deep relaxation, clears energy blockages and increases the vibrational frequency of the body. Healing results from the Reiki energy aiding in the restoration and balancing of the body’s vital energy fields, which enhances the innate healing abilities of the body. The Reiki Practitioner is simply the vehicle through which the universal life force energy flows. Reiki treats the whole person-Body, Mind and Spirit. What does a Reiki Treatment Feel Like? There is a tremendous variety of what one experiences during a Reiki treatment. Feelings of deep relaxation and well-being are often reported. Reiki is a gentle flowing energy that can be felt as a warm, cold or tingling sensation in the body. The variations in sensations result from the action of the Reiki energy as it may be adding, reducing or clearing energy at a particular location. Often times you may feel light, weightless and totally relaxed and may even fall asleep. Some people see images and have insights to things going on in their lives. What are the Benefits of Reiki Treatments? Many people have experienced the following health benefits: • Stress Reduction • Relaxation • Pain Relief • Strengthened Immune System which aids in healing • Reduction in negative side effects from Radiation & Chemotherapy • Enhancement of traditional medical treatments The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center has information about using Reiki as a complementary therapy. It is during these times that the energy available in the body is needed to jump start the innate healing process and receiving Reiki is greatly beneficial to the body’s energy system. Receiving Reiki on a regular basis benefits those without symptoms or disease. The Reiki energy will keep you balanced and harmonized. Along with a healthy lifestyle, keeping your life force energy balanced and preventing blockages promotes the maintenance of health and the reduction of illnesses and diseases. Are there any side effects from Reiki Treatments? The majority of people feel relaxed and energized after a treatment. Sometimes, when deep healing is taking place, a healing reaction may occur. This usually occurs hours or days after the treatment as toxins in the body are released into the blood stream and removed by the kidneys. It is a good idea to drink more water and get adequate rest following a session to allow the body’s natural cleansing process to work efficiently. Who can receive Reiki? Everyone, including children and animals, can benefit from receiving Reiki. It can be done anywhere and at any time. There is an endless supply of Reiki available for everyone. Can I learn to use Reiki? Yes! Reiki is easy to learn and simple to do. Anyone can become attuned to Reiki by having their channels opened by a Reiki Master. Once attuned, the connection to the Reiki energy is always present. The more you use Reiki, the stronger your connection becomes. |
